Explain yourself or live the lie

ACT III The Crucible

This is probably the best section we have read so far out of the entire story.  Danforth can be a complete idiot sometimes and it honestly gets on my nerves.

This story relates to a story from a while ago when i first got my drivers liscense.  I got pulled over for doing five miles over the speed limit and the cop didn’t believe anything that I was saying and he tried finding ever excuse possible to give me the ticket.  So until i said i actually was speeding he was going to write me a ticket.

This relates because the judge doesn’t see the truth only what he wants to believe.  Even though everyone says Proctor is telling the truth.  So it kind of gets completely annoying and i hate how the story ends.

Chpt I, Of Mice And Men

Well first off I thought this line was an importan part of the first act of my reading.  “Awright. You got that. But we’re gonna sleep here because I got a reason”.  I find it ineresting that they left the old town because of what happened and they are traveling as fast as possible to get to the “boss”.  I don’t know one hundred percent about whats going on but it almost seems like George has a sneaky little plan under his arm and Leanie doesnt know about it.  Other than that and not knowing whats going to happen I love how descriptive it is because you have an image in your head all the time while your reading.  Sometimes its too much description but its to the point and Steinbeck makes sure you have he right idea almost.

Act I (The Crucible)

Once upon a time I was sleeping upstairs.  The rule at night time is that you have to stay in your room and if you need something call for someone.  Well I was about age 10 and what 10 year old listens.  Well my cousin Hollie was visiting and I haven’t seen her for a long period of time since I have seen her.  So I heard my mom and Hollie talking about me so I decided to get out of bed and go downstairs and listen to them talk.  Well someone saw a reflection of me in the television and could only tell that it was a person hiding in a corner, I knew they saw me so I ran upstairs to my bed so quietly that they thought someone might be in the house.  I was afraid to get into trouble for being downstairs.  So I went along with a lie, so they thought someone broke into our house.  The cops arrived and searched our house completely from basement to attic.  No one ever found out who it really was.

This relates to what is going on in The Crucible because the girls lie and keep the entire story going and no one can figure out what is going on so far.  As long as the girls keep putting it off they will have no problems.

Act II

Once, when I was going to a school in
Oregon I had many friends.  I wasn’t very judgmental about people.  I didn’t care much about what someone looked like to be their friend.  Well I was friends with this kid named
Austin, he was over weight, and around 230 lbs is what he weighed.  He was made fun of every single day because he was fat.  No one wanted to play any of the games we played at recess with him or even let him touch the basketball.  This was back in sixth grade.  This is related to the Crucible because everyone is trying to find a way to not like someone and like my friend Austin everyone found a reason not to like him and not giving him a chance to be accepted as a person that is just like everyone else.  Also it relates because someone says that this person is a witch that automatically means that you cannot be liked by someone else, everyone says bad things about you, and no one believes a thing you say.  Well like
Austin, being the fat kid, no one cared about what he has to say or even what he did, even if it was for someone else.

Arthur Miller

Arthur Miller was a play writer, he has written many plays and one of his most popular plays is called, “Death of a Salesman”.  He is also known for the marriage of Marilyn Monroe.  His work was mainly influenced by the war and depression in his life, he based many of his plays on life events.  After graduating high school Miller went into work of automobiles to pay off college, he also read Dostoevsky’s novel The Brothers Karamazov and decided he wanted to be a writer.  After he graduated from English he went into the Federal Theatre Project and started off his life.  He was an astounding play writer and he was invovled with politics as well.

When Nature Calls

In my English 11 class we had to write a story about Nature vs Man.  We watched a movie called “To Build A Fire”.  We kind of watched this movie so we had an idea of what naturalism is.  My story is not about me is it completely made up.  Its about 2 boys that go on a trip and it was suppose to be perfect until they start heading home.  Everything suddenly goes bad, i tried to make it naturalist by stuff happening to them without another person intervening.

MY STORY :

Jacob was on his way home about three weeks ago.  He was out of town for a road trip with his friend Cody.  They went to several places.  One of the main places they went to was Portland, Oregon.  They went there because of a girl that they new and she was in college and it was her spring break.   As Jake and Cody were coming back they got into a terrible disaster.  The radiator on the Honda Civic Jake was driving cracked, no one is sure for what reason but it just happened.  So Jake called the town’s mechanic and had the problem fixed.  So along the way home Jake and Cody were pretty excited to tell everyone about their road trip because not many people really go on road trips so it would be even more exciting just to tell everyone.

As they traveled along for a few more miles they discovered that there was something different then the way it was when they started their journey.  They weren’t sure if it was just because of how exhausted they were or if something was really different.  So they decided well everything must be ok, so they traveled a little bit longer.  As the sun went down the more tired Jacob and Cody got.  It was about 8 pm and if was time for them to swap seats for driving.  Cody got into the passenger seat while Jacob ran to the bathroom in the woods.

Cody suddenly wakes up and its 10:30 pm and they aren’t moving, he looks over to his left and realizes Jacob isn’t there.  He gets out of the car and looks around while yelling for Jake.  Cody is very afraid of the dark, especially the dark and the woods.  He almost had a claustrophobic feeling about being surrounded by trees, and being in the dark didn’t help him out at all.

Cody searched the car for some sort of light hoping maybe Jake fell asleep in the woods or something and could just see him from the road.  Digging through the back Cody finds a flashlight and a pistol.  He kind of wonders to him self why in the world there is a gun in the back, but right now it doesn’t really matter he just needs to find Jake.  He turned on the light and looked around with the flashlight; he noticed Jake was tied around a tree with something around his mouth.  Cody runs toward Jake and sees that he has a shirt with tape around his mouth and a rope holding him to the tree.  Cody tries to break loose the rope but he can’t so he tries to shoot it.  He shoots the rope and it breaks apart.  Jake rips the tape off of his face and tells Cody everything as they start running towards the car.  They get to the car and notice that there is a flat tire.  Jake tells Cody that he was yelling at a man, and the man decided to tie him up for being rude.  He doesn’t mention what he says, but it had to have been something that really bothered the old man.

They try to replace the tire but the spare would not make it more than 100 miles.  They begin to think how bad the trip really is and wonder if they should have even went on the trip.  They started asking each other a million questions.  Did someone do this to us?  Does someone hate us?  Does god hate us?  Or does nature it self just playing tricks with us?  They were not sure what to believe but all we knew was that we needed to get out of here before something even worst happens to us.  So they wondered, should we put the tire on or will it just get worse.  So they hoped for the best and put the tire on.

They started nearing a town called Brockton.  They were sure that they must have some sort of place to get a new tire.  They went to a near gas station and asked the clerk and he said he had no idea, so they said have you ever got new tires, clerk says no, I don’t drive I sleep out back.  So they were quite confused, but they found a mechanic.  Mechanic Steve replaced the spare and put a brand new tire on.  Jake and Cody start heading home thanking everything they could thank that everything is ok.  It seemed as if no matter what they did or begged for something was going wrong.

Jake and Cody started laughing and cracking jokes about all the bad things have happened to them, and suddenly out of no where a deer runs out into the middle of the street.  Jake drives into the deer and no one hears from them for several months.  A search team was sent out and until this day no one is sure what exactly happened.

Winter Dreams

I thought the story was ok. The story was about a man who starts out life with a rich family, workingall of the time achieve his dreams, he starts off as a caddy at a golf course. He eventually quits, and starts doing laundry for a living. After he starts making some extra money he thinks he is good at everything. He still hasnt forfilled his dream of being with the girl that everyone wants. Then he gets with her and for a while everything is happy but she breaks it off and goes to some other guy. This happens several times a year, he just can’t get over her.  He is so deep into the relationship that he doesnt see the downside of the girl, she repeatedly breaks up with him and just keeps using him, but all he sees is how perfect she is. So he destroys a relationship with a girl he was going to marry because he is trying to get back with her again. In the end the girl he was always after finally gets married and just kind of fades away, she has little importance anymore.  More into the story there is something brought up about the girl he loves and ruins his life over her once again.  I like the story i just thought it got kind of old to sit and listen to the sotry pretty much repeat it self over and over.  So i believe you should stick with your dreams and not be blinded by something so simple, especially for so long.

Everest

The way I feel about this movie is that it is kind of stupid to risk your life to climb a mountain.  Seriously why would you do that, i just don’t understand even though those people had dreams their entire life to climb a mountain that might kill them.  The thing is that if you love climbing, then climb something that you can survive.  How can you live for the rest of your life knowing you went with someone you cared about and they died, or the other way around, and family is another thing.  I like that people have dreams but not so much that they are willing to kill themselves.  It just occurs to me that it doesn’t seem like it would be a dream.  If that is what people want then so be it.  I appreciate that people do that kind of thing, like they say everyones got to do something in this world, but i like it because the imagery we get from it.  Its not like you can look from the ground and see the snow, winds, or clouds the way you would see them on that mountain.

I thought it was truly amazing that people can actually do what they did in the movie.  It was horrifying seeing the people climb up the mountain.  It was also very scary to see the people walking across the ladder and seeing the long drop to the ground.  Its amazing that people have a successful trip, but i strongly believe that its not worth dieing for.

Poem number 2

The second poem i wrote was kind of difficult because i don’t find writing poems very fun.  It took me a while to get any kind of subject going, sometimes i try to be creative but then i seem to think too hard.  It took me about 15-20 minutes to make my poem.  Even thought it was very simple.

3 possiblily poets

Edgar Allen Poe

Emily Dickinson

Edward Hirsch

I think i am leaning towards Edgar Allen Poe because i like the way he writes.  He writes in some confusing or complicated way and makes perfect sense.  Also Poe likes to keep it straight to the point and doesn’t over do the amount he writes about.
